Project: Dairy Cooperatives and the Solar Milk Cooler
Country: India

Roughly 40% of the milk produced in Indian rural dairy cooperatives spoils before reaching refrigeration facilities. BanyanSeed has been working with manufacturers of solar-powered products to produce a solar-powered dairy cooler that would be able to store milk until a refrigerated truck arrives. This project will both increase profitability of the dairy cooperatives and be eligible for a gold-standard CDM. BanyanSeed is also working with the local dairy cooperatives in order to bring the cooler to the market, and also as project entities for eventual CDM registration. BanyanSeed is also attempting to bring this development to the issue of Rural Electrification through Microfinance- allowing off-grid farmers to boost their productivity on their own initiative, independent of government initiatives or large cooperatives.
Project: Industrial Effluent into Biogas
Country: India

BanyanSeed is currently working companies in Gujarat, India’s largest chemical industry zone, to create biogas from the organic wastewater from chemical dye manufacturing plants. The project involves processing the wastewater of manufacturing facilities and feeding it into a biogas anaerobic reactorproducing methane for power plants. These companies, with BanyanSeed’s assistance, will be able to implement their anaerobic reactor projects within United Nations guidelines for the Clean Development Mechanism. This will significantly reduce their carbon footprint, as it reduces emissions from effluent, and lowers the consumption of fossil fuels.
Project: Solar Panel Distribution
Country: India, Congo, and Tanzania

BanyanSeed is currently working with clients to install solar panels on manufacturing and office facilities around the world, reducing their carbon footprint and making them eligible for a CDM project. BanyanSeed facilitating these projects through local solar panel manufacturers, helping to spur local renewable energy industry. This also sidesteps the need of importing the bulk of the necessary materials. This kind of “greening” of a company’s facilities can be applied anywhere, and will always be eligible for a gold-standard CDM due to easily established additionality, and the renewable nature of the energy generated- no fossil fuels are involved.
Project: Rural Biogas Project
Countries: Congo and Gujarat, india

Biogas has the potential to become the most significant sector of renewable energy in the developing world- the fuel can be anything organic, the process is not dependent upon weather or direct sunlight, and the methane gas generated can be applied to electricity, heating, cooking, or simply sold on the market. Modern, small-scale biogas facilities can be tailored to each situation- a farm, a village, a sawmill, or even a garbage dump. Anywhere there is organic waste products, BanyanSeed can install this completely green, independent source of power to bring green economic growth to where it is needed most. This is also where BanyanSeed intends to implement Microfinance in order to increase the scope of project application. Biogas facilities typically pay themselves off within two years, due to the high price of methane on the open market. small-scale, rural customers, with access to the appropriate financing, could take advantage of this growing market and start to leapfrog ahead of fossil fuel-dependent nations.
